Campfire Twinkies

Instead of the old stand-by marshmallow s'mores over the campfire, you can make Twinkie s'mores over a hot fire for a chocolaty treat. If you can roast a marshmallow or a hot dog, you can roast a Twinkie and melt the chocolate inside. This is a culinary delight that you don't want to miss.

By Pamela Gardapee

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:
Twinkie
Fire grate
2 Hershey's candy bar squares

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Place the fire grate on a campfire with medium heat, not flames.

2. Place the Twinkie on the grate with the flat side down. Grill until the bottom is slightly crisp. Turn the Twinkie onto its side and grill until crispy. Do the other side and the top of the Twinkie. When all sides are done, place the topside of the Twinkie down on the grate.

3. Make a small cut between the three creamy dots on the flat side of the Twinkie. Place the two chocolate squares in the cut. Continue rotating the Twinkie on the grate until the chocolate is melted and the Twinkie is golden and crisp.

4. Remove the Twinkie from the grate and eat for a tasty campfire treat.

TIPS & WARNINGS
If you don't have a grate, you can use hot dog pokers inserted into the Twinkie to roast and turn the Twinkie over the fire, as you would a hot dog or marshmallow. When you insert the chocolate, DO NOT turn the Twinkie over or the chocolate will fall out.
