Does anyone remember an assembly where a young Tony Bennett performed?

ROD SMITHI can't remember any "outsiders" performing at our assemblies except for the 5th Army Band.

MARY ANN VALENTE PAWLISZ: I, too, remember the Tony Bennett concert in the auditorium. As I recall, it was because of a city championship football team???

JAMES KLIMEK: I also remember Tony Bennett at one of our assemblies. I also believe radio personality Howard Miller from WIND was also there.

JOLANE JOHNSON NELSON: I remember well when Tony Bennett was there with Howard Miller. Tony’s been my favorite ever since. We probably won’t see him live again as he is in his 90’s and has Alzheimer’s.

JANET ENG GOLLBERG: Yes, I remember swooning over Tony Bennett (real name Antonio Benedetto) at one of our assemblies. I don't recall if Howard Miller (Uncle Moo Moo) was involved, but he was a promoter so he probably was. Did anyone remember that Miller was once married to June Valli, a star on "Your Hit Parade"? I'm guessing that there would have been an article in the "Fenger News" about Bennett's appearance. Are issues from that far back archived?

BARBARA IZZETT SWANSON: I remember Tony Bennett at an assembly. He was awesome. My friends can't believe that he actually performed at a high school!. Funny thing is, later in life, I was at another performance of his while we were living in the Detroit area. I had written a note beforehand telling him how much I had enjoyed his performance at Fenger H.S. in Chicago. Then, when the curtain closed on this latest show, I quicly rushed down the aisle, saw his shiny shoes under the curtain, reached under the curtain, tapped his shoe with one hand while slipping the note under the curtain with the other hand. He immediately moved away, but I saw his hand reach down and pick up the note! Then surprisingly, he walked over to the curtain fold (from behind the curtain), peeked out his head, and said "thank you, I remember going there." It made my day! Also saw Tom Jones in Windsor, Canada while living in Detroit.

You all brought back old memories which ade me reflect on taking my Mom in Chicago to see Robert Goulet-one of her favorites. It was for her birthday and we had front row seats. During that performance, Goulet came down from the stage, and stopped briefly at different patrons in the front row while singing. It was the highlight for my Mom for he stopped in front of her, sang quite a few phrases, and gave her a peck on the cheek. She never stopped talking about that experience!! Thanks again for opening up my memory file drawer!!

"When chicken like this is served, the wise man never lingers. He puts aside his knife and fork and eats it with his fingers."

I would be mesmerized watching the never ending 'train' load and unload into a boiling oil the perfectly round morsels that undoubtedly made it home or at least to the car. Mom would sit watching people from the second floor overlooking the entrance to the store.
